SCANIA Tanzania Ltd has plans to expand its business, targeting about 70 per cent business growth from the current annual sales of 150 to 250 units in the next five years.
The company's Managing Director, Mr Anders Friberg, said in Dar es Salaam that the world manufacturer of wide range of heavy duty and passenger vehicles as well as engines is eyeing the construction, mining, fire fighting and military vehicle markets.
"We are already there (in mining and construction) but we think we have to do more especially in the public tenders for fire fighting and military vehicles," Mr Friberg told the 'Daily News' in an interview.
The company that is scheduled to celebrate its 40th anniversary next week, started operations in 1973 when Scania CV AB delivered 200 tipper trucks to the Chinese who were constructing the Tanzania-Zambia Railway line (TAZARA).
Scania vehicles have over the years earned high reputation among its customers, thanks to their strength, reliability and availability of after-sales services. "We have a good network of sales and service outlets countrywide," said Mr Friberg, thanking for the customers' 40-year royalty.
He added, "Scania is here to stay... I invite potential customers to come and try Scania to enjoy not only the products but also the services." According to Scania Tanzania Finance Manager Sanjay Oza, the company offers products, services and financing under one-stop centre. Through Scania Finance, a subsidiary of Scania Tanzania, Scania customers may acquire Scania vehicles through lease financing, Mr Oza said.
He said the company is investing heavily on human capital, with the Scania training school offering adequate training to equip the firm employees with the skills that match the changing technologies in the automobile industry.
Scania Tanzania remains the most successful importer and distributor of Scania products in the country with an extensive network of services supporting the business. The Dar es Salaam-headquartered firm has dealerships in Arusha, Mwanza, Mbeya and Tanga, with plans underway to enter into other regions.
