STEPS Solar and Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA) have agreed to instal solar energy systems in some public institutions and dispensaries free of charge.
Speaking with journalists yesterday in Dar es Salaam, the spokesperson for Steps Solar, Mr Moses Manyilu, said that the solar energy systems to be installed will cost 30m/- and that beneficiaries will include police posts, orphanage centres and secondary schools, among others.
He stressed that their company has noted that some essential offices have no access to electricity thus they have decided to support them, to enable them perform their duties efficiently and without any obstacles.
Steps Solar is a renewable energy company found in 2013 that specialises in solar powered energy solutions, they design and instal solar energy systems in the country.
Mr Manyilu said that they would start with Kigamboni Ward in Temeke District where they expect to instal solar power systems in two secondary schools, four dispensaries, four orphanage centres, two government offices and some police stations in Mji Mwema area.
"Solar energy is a great solution for home and business owners to save costs because there is a greater range of products which a low income earner can afford and use them without installing electricity," he said. He further added that before installation which will commence today they will provide education to residence of Mji Mwema and Homboza area both in Kigamboni Ward, to help them understand about solar energy which is cost efficient yet it is not popular.
Executive Secretary for TAREA, Eng. Matthew Matimbwi, said that solar energy is the best solution and comes highly recommended because it costs nothing after installation and purchase of products to help get power.
"Some people have been discouraged to use solar energy systems simply because they have had bad experience of using fake products," said Eng. Matimbwi. Eng. Matimbwi said that people in the villages would benefit more by using solar power, which is user friendly, instead of lantern lamps.
TAREA is a non-profit making, non-governmental organisation (NGO) that brings together actors in the renewable energy sectors to promote the accessibility and use of renewable energies in Tanzania. It was established in 2000.
