Posted Date 2013/11/21 22:26

THE Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital will partner with the government to build a trauma treatment centre. Trauma specialist Harvey Hawes and Abdulah Saleh visited the hospital on Saturday to discuss the plans.
Saleh said they are working with the government to set up a national trauma injury framework. He said this will be done in consultation with the Trauma Association of Kenya, Ministry of Health, Kenya Red Cross Society, Surgical Society of Kenya and other referral hospitals.

Saleh said the centre will train trauma experts on research activities. Moi Referral Teaching Hospital's deputy director of finance and administration Agunda Ochanda said the new centre will train health personnel in Western Kenya on Advanced Trauma Life Support.

He was speaking during a meeting with the experts at the hospital on Saturday. Ochanda said the centre will improve Trauma treatment to Kenyans . "We welcome the plan to have a trauma unit so that we can serve our patients well," he said.
Separately, the Parliamentary Committee on Health toured the hospital yesterday. Committee chairperson Rachel Nyamai said the team assessed the hospital's facilities.

Nyamai said the team will compile a report to be tabled in parliament. They met with the hospital's CEO Dr John Kibosia, senior staff and board members. Kibosia said their discussions centred on services delivery.
"The MPs wanted know the full details on how we operate, the services we offer and even the challenges we may be facing as a Referral Hospital," he said.
