Masdar eyes investment in South Africa
Masdar eyes investment in South AfricaAbu Dhabi-based Masdar has expressed interest in investing in South Africa’s ambitious renewable energy programme, a senior minister has said.

“We are attracting business investors from all the over the world and I am happy to indicate that when I was here in October 2012, Sultan Al Jaber, the CEO of Masdar indicated to me that they are interested in the third window [of bidding for renewable energy projects] and the ensuing windows,” said Elizabeth Dipuo Peters, minister of energy for South Africa.

Speaking on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, she said that the country was on track to achieve its goal of sourcing 42 per cent of its power from renewable sources by 2030.

“We made a bid for 3,725 MW and we got 1,400 MW in the first window and 1,200 in the second window. So there are bidders out there to build up to 2,500 MW that can deployed by 2016-2017 when the plants are finally built,” she said.
