South Sudan shrugged off the foreign currency shortages it faced last year to grow its Business trade with Kenya.
The volume of Kenyan goods exported to South Sudan and Sudan totaled Sh24.6 billion compared to Sh22.2 billion an year earlier, with most of the exports going to the newly independent state.
Data from the Export Promotion Council shows that Kenyan exports to South Sudan last year hit Sh18 billion against imports valued at Sh14 million, while the exports to Sudan were Sh6.6 billion against imports of Sh955.4 million.
“Business between Kenya and the South Sudan has been on the rise. Even though the available statistics on the economy date back to only one year, it is held that most of Kenya’s trade with the erstwhile larger Sudan was composed mainly of exports to the South,” said EPC in a statement.
Kenya’s exports to the South Sudan market include pharmaceutical products, food, edible oils and other manufactured products.
