Kenya is one of the beneficiaries of the Sh8.5 billion ($100m) which the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) is giving as a grant to 13 African countries.
The fund will go towards providing Kenyans with access to modern, clean and affordable energy services through the expansion and upgrading of energy-related infrastructure.
This is expected to result in about 300,000 new connections for households, small businesses and public institutions.
“The Governing Board of the OPEC Fund has approved seven loans and three grants totalling over $100 million to boost socio-economic development in 13 African countries,” said OFID in a press statement.
Other countries that will benefit from the deal include the DR Congo, Egypt, Madagascar, Djibouti, Tanzania, Sierra Leone among others.
