This morning (11 June) Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle commented as follows on the appointment of German diplomat Martin Kobler as the new head of the UN peace mission in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo:
I am very pleased that Martin Kobler is to head the UN peace mission in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is a very good choice. MONUSCO is the largest UN peace mission.
As the UN's Special Representative for Iraq Martin Kobler did an excellent job and he brings the tremendous competence and expertise to his new post. For this challenging task I wish him all the best and every success.
