Fonterra leaders heading to China
Posted Date 2013/08/29 23:29

Fonterra said its chairman, John Wilson, and chief executive, Theo Spierings, will lead a board of directors' visit to China next week.

Wilson said in a statement the co-operative's board had already planned to visit China in early September to give directors a chance to meet with staff and stakeholders, and to view progress on Fonterra's farming hub in Yutian.
The Ministry for Primary Industries said this week that Fonterra whey product had been cleared of the botulism-causing bacteria, contrary to earlier positive tests.

"Now that it has been confirmed that there was no clostridium botulinum in our whey protein concentrate, we need to address any remaining concerns our stakeholders in China might have," he said in a statement.
"The feedback we have been getting is that people believe we did the right thing in initiating the precautionary recall, but at the same time we want to provide every assurance about our food safety and quality systems and processes," Wilson said.
