Egyptian firm bets on Kenya's construction boom

THE thriving construction industry in the country has enticed an Egyptian paints company - Mido_ to launch its range of paints in the already competitive local market.
Mido which is one of the largest paint exporters in the continent has first launched its automotive paints to be followed shortly by its other products including decorative, wood, special effects and chemical paints.

The company will battle it out in Kenya with existing paints companies such as Sadolin, Basco paints and Crown Berger. Mido expects to make good sales volumes more specifically in the decorative paints segment popularly used for interior decor, which it said attributes to about 51 per cent of total sales revenue due to thriving home construction industry in Africa.
“We chose Kenya to be our base to reach East Africa because it is ranked the 10th economy in Africa and first economy in east Africa and the unique location and resources like the port of Mombasa that enables us to reach other countries easily," said Mido group vice president Omar Ghaly.
