The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has lately launched a number of initiatives to enable local entrepreneurs to contribute to the transformation of Dubai into a smart city.
The Dubai Smartpreneur Competition, a result of the chamber’s cooperation with the Smart Dubai Office that was announced in March 2016, is designed to help upcoming entrepreneurs to take part in Dubai’s mission to create more prosperity by embracing technology innovation.
The competition is open for applications from entrepreneurs residing in the UAE until 7 May.
All participants are required to submit business ideas relating to one of the Smart Dubai strategy dimensions including smart economy, smart living, smart mobility, smart governance, smart environment, and smart people.
The three winners will each receive cash prizes and an opportunity to join a year-long Tejar Dubai entrepreneurship development programme.
In addition, the chamber recently partnered with IBM to launch a new platform on IBM Cloud to support the city’s technology and start-up ecosystem.
DubaiStartupHub, which operates under the umbrella of Dubai Smart City, offers a comprehensive search portal with a database and profile of Dubai-based tech start-ups and investors, a city-wide tech event calendar, continuous updates of technology-related jobs in the city, and a dedicated section for breaking news stories.
Furthermore, virtual visitors are invited to apply for IBM’s Global Entrepreneur Programme, which provides mentoring, support and access to development tools and cloud resources via IBM Cloud.
“The DubaiStartupHub consolidates the concept of a smarter community by offering comprehensive information and services aligned to Dubai Government's strategic directions on smart cities,” says HE Hamad Buamim, president and CEO at the Dubai Chamber.
