The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), in collaboration with the Kenya Defense Forces, the Kenya Police and Prisons Services has organized the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, established by a UN resolution in 2002, to pay tribute to all men and women who have served either as military, police or civilians and continue to serve in United Nations peacekeeping operations. These personnel have demonstrated a high level of professionalism, dedication and courage. The day is also meant to honour the memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.
This year's theme for the Day is "UN Peacekeeping: Adapting to New Challenges" and will stress on the need to build a stronger relationship between the society- more so the youth - and peacekeepers. As a result, the programme will include an interactive session with young people who comprise out of school youth and university students.
The programme also includes blood donation to boost the Kenya national blood banks in honour of the services of the Peacekeepers.
