China has extended duty free treatment to about 8,000 Zambian exports, local media reported Thursday.
The moves means exporters in Africa's largest copper producer will now enjoy duty free exports of up to 95 per cent of tariff line from the current 60 per cent.
"This agreement also includes the amendment of the 14th protocol of Tazara (Tanzania Zambia Railway)," Zambia Finance minister Alexander Chikwanda was quoted as saying by the state news agency Zanis.
"The protocol will also see Tazara procure two locomotives aimed at improving operations of the rail company."
Chinese ambassador Zhou Yuxiao, who signed the agreement on behalf of his country, said the deal should serve as a "Christmas gift to Zambians".
Zambia Private Sector Development Association chairperson Yusuf Dodia welcomed the agreement, saying it would boost trade between the southern African nation and China.
Zambia largely exports copper to China.
