Butere MP Andrew Toboso on Saturday launched a solar security lighting project worth Sh5 million shillings in Butere district.
Speaking after he commissioned the erection of five electricity masts in Butere town, the MP said each of the five security lights will cost Sh1 million to complete.
"The entire project will take one month to complete because it will require excavation of the foundation ground, erection of the masts and installation of the lights," Toboso said.
He said the first phase of the project will cover Bukura, Sabatia, Butere, Mulambo and Shiatsala in the first phase of the project. Lunza, Shitsitswi, Samansi and Marenyo shopping centres will be covered in the second phase.
Toboso said he wants every business centre in the district to have security lights to enhance 24-hour economy in the area.
"We want boda boda operators and women who sell vegetables to carry out their businesses without fear of darkness which is known to raise crime," he said.
