The 20th Ordinary Session of the Conference of the African Union Ministers of Industry (CAMI) will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 10-14 June, 2013. Organized under the theme: Accelerating Industrialization for Africa within the post-2015 development agenda, the meeting aims to provide a more growth focused approach and solid foundation for addressing Africa's present and future development challenges.
According to the organizers, the meeting will provide guidelines for policy orientation and coherence within the Post-2015 Development Framework, and highlight Africa's industrialization as a key factor for the development process of the continent.
Particular emphasis will be put on support for the implementation of the Strategy for the Action Plan for Accelerated Industrial Development of Africa (AIDA); production diversification; decent job creation; energy production for industrial development; and technology transfer. Additional issues to be tackled include: capacity-building and international cooperation for sustainable development; Importance of regional integration and cooperation with regard to industrial development through formulation of necessary regional policies and action plans.
The outcomes of the Conference will be used to provide guidance to international and national policymaking in shaping the post-2015 UN development agenda, create an enabling environment to meet shared objectives and support global solutions to Africa's challenges. The outcomes will be submitted to the upcoming AU Summit of Heads of States and Governments for consideration and adoption.
In addition to the Ministers of Industry African experts in industrial development and African industrialists, African Private Sector, Academia, UN agencies and NGOs and other relevant development partners will be in attendance.
